As more companies undergo digital transformations and incorporate more aspects of IOT, or internet of things, into their businesses, more jobs are created in this industry. However, those interested in working in the industry are left wondering, How can I build a successful career in the IOT and digital transformation field?

What It Takes To Build a High-Paying Career in the IOT and Digital Transformation Field

First of all, what kinds of jobs exist in the IOT and Digital Transformation Field?

IOT Engineers, IOT Developers, Dev-Ops Specialists, IOT Cloud Platform Programmers/Developers, IOT Embedded Engineers, Edge Computing Professionals, Inside Sales IOT, Robotics Process Engineers, Business Process Analysts, Automation Engineers and AI Engineers are only a few in the comprehensive list of jobs available in the industry.

But how can you successfully build a career out of one of these jobs?

The answer to this question is more simple than most job-seekers realize and can be reduced to two words: educate yourself. Specifically, educate yourself about IOT and digital transformation. Since the internet of things and digital transformation industry is still forming and growing, the smartest thing to do is to learn as much as you can about it. Nothing in this field is common knowledge yet because it is so new, and any information that you can absorb before interviewing sets you a step above other candidates. Employers want to spend less time educating and training their employees and more time gaining an advantage in the industry, and because of this, interviewees will be much more desirable if they can showcase some IOT and digital transformation knowledge right off the bat.

This being said, start as soon as you can, and dive right in. Search everything you can think of, take notes, make flashcards and spreadsheets. Study new software and familiarize yourself with companies in the industry. Adopt a college student’s mindset, load up on coffee, and learn, learn, learn. Acquire as much information as you can, and then watch opportunities fall into your lap.

So, What does it take to build a high-paying career in the IOT and digital transformation field?

To build a high-paying career in the IOT and digital transformation field, it takes a strong work ethic and the drive to learn new things quickly. The IOT and digital transformation field is growing rapidly, and those who want a career in it cannot afford to be left behind.

One reoccurring weakness in today’s world is that people tend to specialize in one thing. However, spending all of your time becoming the best in one specific area will take away from your skills in another area. For example, someone could spend hours upon hours reading about the outdoors, but when they decide to go hiking, they realize they have no outdoor experience, since they spent all of their time indoors, researching. Basically, from business to technology to engineering, one should be able to equip themselves not just with knowledge but also experience and expertise. While it is easy to say this, it is very difficult to implement.

This is why we created digiBlitz University. Within the community and platform ecosystem, we bring in the opportunity for all business, engineering and IT talents to work together. For anyone to be successful in IOT, they should have the knowledge of, and experience with, all of the aspects and workings of business and technology.

The PTP framework (Philosophy, Theory and Practicality) created by the Founder and Chief Architect of digiBlitz, Suresh Kannan, states that “anything that is well understood philosophically, spiritually and socially, can be theoretically expressed and designed in one or more ways. In addition, anything that is theoretically well explained and designed can be practically implemented in one or more ways.”
